[case a] Why does everyone think Selphie is so annoying? by SilverWing*

We all know Selphie. For those who don't, Selphie is that bright, spunky energetic girl who's always so optimistic and doesn't let anything get in her way. She is the girl in the yellow jumper, flipped hair and bright green eyes and a smile that would turn even a stone heart slightly softer. Hell, through out the game, I think the only time she gets sad is when they visit the ruins of Trabia Garden, the Garden she formerly attended before transferring to Balamb. Yet, even then, Selphie still does her best to keep her spirits up.

However, everywhere I go, just about every fic I read, they make Selphie an annoying little brat. Selphie may have her little annoying tidbits, but she is definitely not as bad as everyone makes her out. She's just a girl who enjoys having fun and is determined to succeed and she's not about to let some moody people get in her way. In some way, I tend to see her as the spirit of the gang. Squall was definitely no motivator, and the same goes for the rest of the gang. Zell tried his best, but there were times when he just got them in trouble. Irvine…let us not go there. I mean, yeah he tried, but let's face it…after he chickened out with that sharp shooting gig, no one really liked him. Rinoa…now there's a woman that got on your nerves! Quistis is more of the serious type rather than the cheery type of woman. Now, Selphie, no matter what happened, she was always positive, and be honest, she made you laugh sometimes.

For instance, at the Galbadia Missile Base, Selphie was so encouraging. Even if you got caught, she was still there to encourage the team to keep going for it. She was selfless in all her actions at the base, thinking only of helping her friends. Even if the other members left her, I have no doubt in my mind that Selphie would have stayed there and did all she could before she gave up. And one more thing, Selphie would not give up without one damn good fight.

Selphie also brought some humor at the Missile Base when she started talking about blowing up everything. She was excited, she was happy that they were going to accomplish what they came there for and she was happy about saving her friends. And yeah, you might think all her talk about blowing everything up was a little immature, but I'm sure she wasn't entirely serious about the whole ordeal. Like I said, she was excited.

I could name a million more points on why Selphie is not the annoying little brat everyone portrays her as, but this is long enough I think. If you have even read this far, I thank you for listening to me and I hope I have changed your mind about Selphie if you read this with a negative attitude about her. I just hope that everyone portrays her now as a mature, happy girl instead of an aggravating one, because she's not. Selphie is definitely mature and can definitely be serious when it is crucial, just don't hold it against her for having an optimistic attitude. Someone has got to be the motivator, and I think Selphie is perfect for it…don't you?
